This choice is one of the most popular milk alternatives on the market, made from soybeans or soy flour.
Plain, unsweetened soy milk has 7 grammes of protein per cup. A glass of 2% dairy milk, for example, provides 8 grammes of protein.
Soy milk use is not associated to an increased risk of breast cancer and may even help to prevent it.
Eating or drinking soy products, such as soy milk, has been linked to a lower risk of prostate cancer.
Soy milk also aids in the absorption of calcium and iron. Calcium from your food is required by your body to maintain dense and strong bone tissue.
Soy is high in protein, which is beneficial to vegans and anyone who eats a low-animal-protein diet. Soy is cholesterol-free and has a low fat content.
If you're lactose intolerant, concerned about the environment, or simply don't care for the flavour of cow's milk, soy milk is a good substitute.
