Manchester United defeated Brentford to maintain their Europa League position. On a rainy Monday night at Old Trafford, Manchester United defeated Brentford 3-0.
Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo, both of Portugal, scored to retain their team in sixth place in the Premier League.
In what is likely to be their final season with the club, Ralf Rangnick started Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic, with Edinson Cavani coming off the bench.
Bruno Fernandes headed home Anthony Elanga's cross in the ninth minute to give the hosts the lead as United attempted to consolidate their rank in the table and a place in next season's League.
With the opener, Fernandes ended United's eight-match Premier League goalless record at Old Trafford, where they were playing their final match of the 2021-22 season.
"The last game of the season at home, we wanted a good result and a good performance," After scoring his 50th goal for the club, United captain Fernandes stated.
Just before halftime, Ronaldo appeared to have extended the lead, but the goal was ruled out for offside, and United went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
Ronaldo then made it 2-0 for United by comfortably converting a penalty after Rico Henry was fouled in the area.
When Raphael Varane connected with the ball from a corner kick and beat Brentford keeper David Rayato to extend the lead to three, there was no doubt about the 3 points.
United now have 58 points from 36 games, six more than West Ham United, who have a game in hand for sixth place and a place in the Europa League for the 2022-23 season.
